 Wednesday 15: The Egyptian Museum and Old Cairo

In the first tours day, you’ll be introduced to three totally different periods in the Egyptian history. The tour will start by visiting The Sultan Hassan School and Mosque, which is a fantastic architectural wonder from the Mamluk era. Then we will visit Abo Serga church, which is one of the oldest Coptic churches in Egypt dating back to the 4th century. After that, we will head to The Egyptian Museum, which contains the world's most extensive collection of Pharaonic antiquities covering 5000 years of the Egyptian history. At the end of the day, we will enjoy the Tanoora show at Wekalet El Ghoori, a must-see Egyptian Folkloric dancing show.

Thursday 16: Tour for accompanying persons

We have arranged a trip for persons accompanying CICLing attendees, on April 16th to CULTNAT, an award winning center for the documentation of Cultural and Natural Heritage. It features many impressive exhibitions, as well as the unique Culturama. The center is located in the Smart Village, which is still in the area of 6th October, where the conference venue is. The tour is expected to last for about 2 hours. Transportation to and from CULTNAT will be provided for free courtesy of Nile University, and entry to CULTNAT is for free (courtesy of CULTNAT).

Friday 17: The Pyramids

We will spend the whole day in the Pharaonic Egypt. We will start the trip by visiting the Great Pyramids of Giza, the oldest of the Seven Wonders of the World, which was built around 2560 BC. Then we’ll move to the Sakkara region which features numerous pyramids including the tomb of King Titi and the step pyramid of Djoser, the oldest complete stone building known in history. Finally we will enjoy the sound & light show; a magnificent show that brings creatively to life the rule of ancient Egyptians. For an hour, you will enjoy the sound and light show near the pyramids and the Sphinx. The history is re-told by the Sphinx, telling you the most ancient secrets of the world.

Monday 20: Fayoum Oasis

The Fayoum Oasis is located less than 2 hours away from where we will be stationed.  On our way to the oasis, we will see rural side of Egypt. When we get there, we will proceed to visit valley of the whales (Wadi Al-Hitan), which was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005. The valley has hundreds of well-preserved fossils, some of which include the earliest forms of whales. After visiting this site, we will head into the desert for lunch in a desert camp.  Following lunch, we will head to Gabal El-Medawwara and then Wadi El-Rayan.  At the end of our tour, we will visit Tunis village, where you will get the chance to see current day rural handicrafts. We will then head back to Cairo.
